Bio
Gristle was born in Baltimare. His grandfather immigrated to Equestria from Griffonstone after the kingdom’s decline, following Arimaspi’s theft of the Idol of Boreas. Growing up, he always listened to his grandfather’s stories about how proud the griffons were of their idol and how great their kingdom was. With his head becoming filled with dreams of their former glory, Gristle made it his lifelong goal to become the next king of the Griffon nation, and to once again unite his species under his rule and reestablish them as the proud kingdom they used to be.

At some point he met Gilda while she was travelling to and from Griffonstone. While tagging along in an attempt to catch her interest, the two saw the large, bright tower of Ultimo and Manic’s signal fire. Upon Gristle’s insistence and reckless rush into the potentially dangerous situation, Gilda reluctantly followed along. That’s where they saw the two dragons and Skyboom, the former of which were being attacked by Timberwolves. Helping to fight them off, the group became steady friends, and even picked up learning instruments on Skyboom’s insistence.

Gristle is a “meat and potatoes” type of griffon. He’s loud, brash, and very straightforward, preferring to solve all of his problems with a direct and “hands on” approach. Hot-tempered and continuously trying to prove his strength to others, he’s usually the one to throw the first punch or leap headlong into danger, much to the chagrin of the rest of the group who usually end up having to bail him out. He also has something of an ego that stems from his prideful outlook on his species, and from his own impressive fighting ability. As such, he hates being looked down upon by others.

He's a formidable athlete. A two time Golden Spurs winner on the amateur boxing circuit, one of the few griffons to ever do so.

In Gristle’s mind, the reason that the Griffon kingdom fell is because King Guto and his army weren’t strong enough to defend their sacred treasure from Arimaspi. He therefore believes that actions and strength mean everything, and that is what the best leader is: one who is strong enough to crush any threat to their people and their nation. One who never loses, no matter what the odds. This has led to him being a very poor loser, taking failure or loss very hard.

Gristle often butts heads with Manic. Both have a sense of pride stemming from their heritage. But Manic is the more self-assured of the two, whereas Gristle sees his size and strength as competition, and is constantly riled by the dragon’s taunts. He also has a big crush on Gilda, but she’s completely repulsed by his overly enthusiastic personality, which she had no trouble whatsoever letting him no right before her departure from the group.
